Samford Places Two on All-Conference Teams

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Samford University seniors Whitney Miller and Shellie Ouldhouse were each named to All-Atlantic Sun Conference teams Thursday night at the A-Sun Volleyball Awards banquet.

Miller was named to the All-Conference first team for the second year in a row after earning Player of the Week honors twice during the regular season. The Anniston, Ala., native is Samford's leading attacker with a conference-high 432 kills. She is currently second on the Bulldogs all-time kills list and single-season kills list and she is third on Samford's all-time digs list. Miller has 22 double-figure kill matches and 13 double-doubles on the season.

Ouldhouse was named to the All-Atlantic Sun second team. The Mesquite, Texas native is second in all-time block assists and sixth in all-time kills. This season she is second on the team in blocks and third in kills. She has 16 double-figure kill outings and five double-doubles.

The top seed in this year's tournament, Georgia State, swept the individual honors. GSU head coach Dr. Richard Leonard was named Coach of the Year and Anna Popenko was named Player of the Year each for the second-straight year. Georgia State also had the Freshman of the Year with setter April DeCosto.

The Atlantic Sun Tournament begins Friday with #4 seed Florida Atlantic taking on the #5 seed Jacksonville University at 10 a.m. EST. The #6 seed Samford will play the #3 seed Campbell University at 12:30 p.m. EST in the opening round. Friday evening will be semifinal action with the #1 seed Georgia State awaiting the FAU/Jacksonville winner at 4 p.m. EST and the #2 seed UCF awaiting the Samford/Campbell winner at 6:30 p.m. EST. The Championship game will be at Noon EST on Saturday.
