Whitney Miller Named A-Sun Player of the Week
Oct. 1, 2001 MACON, Ga. - Samford senior outside hitter Whitney Miller was tabbed as the Atlantic Sun Conference volleyball Player of the Week on Monday. Miller recorded 45 kills, 32 digs, and 11 blocks to help the Bulldogs to a perfect 2-0 week. Miller surpassed the 1,000 kill mark for her career in an 18-kill, 19-dig performance against Birmingham-Southern last Tuesday. She followed that up with a 27-kill, 13-dig effort against Troy State on Saturday in the Bulldogs first conference victory of the year. The Anniston, Ala., native posted a .372 hitting percentage for the week and added six service aces. Miller has recorded double-doubles in each of her last three matches and just missed becoming the first Samford player to ever recorded a triple-double as she was finished the Troy State match with 27 kills, 13 digs, and eight blocks. It is the second time in her career she has won the award and the first time this season a Samford player has taken Player of the Week honors.
Samford (4-8) will face SEC-foe Mississippi State (6-4) on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. at Seibert Hall.
