Volleyball Team To Help Victims Of Hurricane Katrina
Sept. 1, 2005 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University volleyball team has initiated its own storm relief drive to aid those who have suffered as a result of Hurricane Katrina. The volleyball team was scheduled to compete in a tournament at the University of New Orleans on Friday, Sept. 2 and Saturday, Sept. 3. Due to the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, the tournament was cancelled and Samford will be at home against Lipscomb at 10 a.m., and Stetson at 3 p.m., on Saturday. "The girls want to show their concern and hope for the people in New Orleans and the surrounding areas," said head coach Michelle Durban. "Many of our players have family and friends in the areas affected and feel the desire to help in any way we can." The team will be collecting donations for the devastated community of New Orleans at every Samford event this weekend. Checks can be made out to the American Red Cross. Members of the volleyball team will be at the following events:
