Samford Hires Kris Dorn as Volleyball Coach
April 4, 2002 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Kris Dorn has been named as the fifth head coach in the 15-year history of the Samford volleyball program Director of Athletics Bob Roller announced today. Dorn had spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Samford under Vickie Nichols, who resigned to spend more time with her family. Dorn spent one year as an assistant at Seton Hall and two years at Liberty where he help guide the Flames to the NCAA Tournament in 1997 and to a Big South Conference regular season title in 1998. "Kris has been our top assistant for the past two years and is ready to take over our volleyball program," Roller said. "We feel this team is poised to make great strides in our final year of playing the Atlantic Sun before our move to the Ohio Valley Conference in 2003 and Kris is the person to lead this effort." "I am excited because I know the ability of our players and have seen the team pull together over the last two seasons," said Dorn. "Samford is a unique place that upholds the values and goals that I do. I consider it an honor to takes the reigns after Coach Nichols. She was a great coach and a role model to myself and our players. I am excited to build on that foundation and continue to grow the program."
Dorn graduated with a B.A. in fine arts and a minor in psychology from Taylor University in 1996.
A native of Long Island, N.Y., Dorn is engaged to Jennifer Pahl of Murrieta, Calif.
