Volleyball Ends Season With Win At Belmont
Nov. 11, 2000 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Samford volleyball team may have played its best match of the year to finish the 2000 season. Junior Whitney Miller had a match-high 14 kills as the Bulldogs swept Belmont University 15-0, 15-8 and 15-11 in Nashville Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs (14-16) recorded their first 15-0 win since Sept. 4, 1997 against Alabama A&M in game one. Shellie Ouldhouse who had nine kills and three blocks in the match had three aces in the first game as the Bulldogs hit .750 (10 kills, 1 error, 12 attacks) in the opening game. Samford out blocked Belmont (12-23) 7-5 and out aced the Bruins 8-5 but the biggest factor in the match was the hitting percentage. The Bulldogs hit .349 for the match while Belmont hit just .175. All five Bulldogs hitters hit over .250. Miller hit .417 (14-4-24), Ouldhouse hit .400 (9-3-15), Angela Smith and Stefanie Pickett each hit .333 and Ashley Fulton hit .250. The Bruins were led offensively by Brittney Baggett who had nine kills and Kristen Moore who added seven kills.
The Bulldogs end the season with a 14-16 overall mark just missing the TAAC tournament.
