Morehead State Sweeps Samford
Nov. 9, 2001 EVANSVILLE, Ind. - -- Morehead State University used a power offense and took advantage of poor Bulldog passing to defeat Samford University 30-17, 30-13, 30-17 in the opening match of the Evansville Invitational Friday night. Samford (12-17) has struggled with its passing in its last couple of matches. The Bulldogs gave up 10 aces to Morehead State and only managed a .052 hitting percentage. Abby Miner and Shellie Ouldhouse each had seven kills to pace the Bulldogs. Morehead State (20-9) controlled the match as Jennifer Kennedy and Cherelle Lampkins each had 10 kills as the Eagles recorded a .411 hitting percentage. Kennedy added 12 digs for a double-double. Morehead State out-blocked Samford 8-4 and out-dug the Bulldogs 43-28.
Samford will regroup and face Evansville and Southern Illinois on Saturday. The Evansville match begins at 1:30 p.m. while the Southern Illinois match is set for 4:30 p.m.
