Samford Falls To Troy State In Four Games
Oct. 31, 2000 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Erika Vanhootegem had 23 kills and 23 digs to help Troy State defeat Samford, 3-1, in Trans America Athletic Conference volleyball action at Seibert Hall Tuesday night. Samford (12-16, 3-6 TAAC) was led by Whitney Miller's 15 kills and 26 digs and Ashley Fulton's 10 kills and 19 digs. With the loss, the Bulldogs will not qualify for the TAAC tournament while Troy State (19-8, 3-4 TAAC) keeps its tournament hopes alive with the victory. Samford jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game one. Troy State called a timeout and then went on an 30-10 run to win game one 15-8 and game two 15-6. The Bulldogs played their best game in game three to win 15-10. Samford hit .211 in game three while only hitting .094 for the match. Troy State hit .180 in the match. Amy Kellogg had 10 kills and hit .409 and Haven Triboulet also had 10 kills for the Lady Trojans. In game four, Troy State built a 14-6 lead but missed two consecutive serves on match point and Samford went on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 14-14. Triboulet and Kellogg combined for back-back blocks to end the match 16-14.
Samford will travel to Birmingham-Southern on Monday, Nov. 6, for a non-conference match with the Panthers.
