Samford Downs Alabama State 3-0

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Samford Bulldogs had four players record double-figures in kills on their way to a 3-0 non-conference volleyball victory at Alabama State Tuesday night. Shellie Ouldhouse led the Bulldogs (11-12) with 20 kills and had a .731 hitting percentage (20-1-26), Sherri Cook recorded a career-high with 13 kills, Whitney Miller also recorded 13 kills, and Stefanie Pickett added 10 kills as Samford won its second straight match and 16th straight against Alabama State dating back to 1988. The Bulldogs hit .317 in the match while holding Alabama State to a .146 percentage and out dug the Lady Hornets 44-33. Alabama State (7-10) was led by Hakika Bookter's 11 kills and seven kills each from Ashonta Wyatt and Yevette Parker. The Lady Hornets started the match by taking a 5-1 lead in game one. Samford then went on an eight point run to take control 9-5. The Bulldogs would go on to take the opening game 15-8. Samford would not trail again. The second game was the Bulldogs strongest hitting game as Samford hit .442 (23-4-43) as a team. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-3 lead before winning 15-6. In the final game, the Bulldogs raced out to a 9-0 advantage before winning 15-4.
The Bulldogs will return to Trans America Athletic Conference play on Thursday when they travel to Florida Atlantic for a 6 p.m. match.
