Samford Drops Heartbreaker To UTM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford Bulldog volleyball dropped a hard fought four-game match to the University of Tennessee at Martin in game four of the 2000 State Farm/Samford Classic Saturday morning.

The Bulldogs took the opening game 15-11 and lead 7-2 in game two when controversy struck. Samford was found out of rotation after scoring two points which were taken away. From that point UTM when on a 13-2 run to take game two 15-9. The Skyhawks carried the momentum into game three which they won 15-5.

Game four was a back and forth affair which saw Samford battled back from a 10-6 deficit to tie the score at 13. Samford had one game point at 14-13, but could not finish out he game. UTM went on top 15-14 and 16-15 before closing out the game and the match 17-15.

Shellie Ouldhouse and 16 kills for Samford while Heather Kea had 16 kills for UTM. Samford freshman Stepfanie Pickett recorded a career-high with 11 kills and 12 digs.

Samford will play again at 4 p.m. against the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
