OXFORD, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi took a convincing three-game victory over Samford 30-19, 30-14, 30-16 at the Magnolia Invitational hosted by Ole Miss.

Southern Miss (5-2) hit .412 in the match and only had one hitting error through the first two games. USM used a 4-0 run in game one to open up a 12-6 lead. The Golden Eagles led by as much as 28-14 before Samford (1-6) went on a 5-0 run to make the final 30-19.

Game two was all Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles hit .455 and did not commit a hitting error. Samford on the other hand had a negative hitting percentage and lost 30-14. The Bulldogs come out inspired in game three and raced out to an 11-6 lead. USM took control from there going on a 10-0 run to take the lead at 16-11. The Golden Eagles finished the match on a 24-5 run to complete the sweep.

Melissa Shreve had 13 kills to lead USM while Whitney Miller's seven kills paced Samford. Abby Miner had 14 digs and Miller added 13 digs for the Bulldogs.

Samford will conclude the Magnolia Invitational with a 5 p.m. match against Tennessee-Martin.
