Bulldogs Head To Florida For 2008 UNF Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Samford University women's tennis team will resume play in its 2008 fall schedule this weekend as the Bulldogs participate in the third-annual UNF Invitational hosted by the University of North Florida. The 29-team event will be held at the UNF Tennis Complex, Oct. 10-12.

Comfort Inn Oceanfront will serve as the title sponsor for the 2008 UNF Fall Invitational, which features 32 singles flighted A/B/C draws and 32 doubles flighted draws.

The ITA-sanctioned tournament will include 29 teams from around the nation. The lineup of competition includes Samford, Auburn, Belmont, East Tennessee State, Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville, Memphis, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, South Carolina State and Troy.

Samford's 2008-09 roster boasts four returning players from last year's squad which won the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship. The Bulldogs earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2008 and will be led this season by sophomores Lindsey Mallory, Andrie Meiring, Taylor Morgan and Rebecca Kirven.

This year, Samford also added the services of freshmen Jessica Diamond, Beth Erwin and Karen Niszl, as well as talented transfers from Middle Tennessee Shannon Hartmann and Stephanie Parkison.

The 2008 UNF Fall Invitational will be played Friday-Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla. Matches will take place at the UNF Tennis Center, located on the campus of University of North Florida in the athletics complex.
 

 

If needed, matches will also be played at the FCCJ Tennis Courts, located at 11901 Beach Blvd., a little more than two miles from campus.
