Women's Tennis Heads To Florida For 2009 UNF Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University women's tennis team will resume play in its 2009 fall schedule this weekend as the Bulldogs participate in the fourth-annual UNF Invitational hosted by the University of North Florida. The 30-team event will be held at the UNF Tennis Complex, Oct. 9-11. The Hampton Inn 9A & Baymeadows will serve as the title sponsor for the 2009 UNF Fall Invitational, which features 32 singles flighted A/B/C draws and 32 doubles flighted draws. The ITA-sanctioned tournament will include 30 teams from around the nation. The lineup of competition on the women's side includes Samford, Bethune-Cookman, Central Florida, Coastal Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia Southern, Indiana, North Florida and UAB. Samford heads into the 2009-10 campaign boasting seven returning players in senior Stephanie Parkison, juniors Andrie Meiring and Taylor Morgan, as well as up-and-coming sophomores Jessica Diamond, Beth Erwin, Rebecca Kirven and Lindsey Mallory. This year, Samford will also boast the services of highly-touted true freshmen Kristin Lewis and Emily Mallory, as well as sophomore Madelie Janse Van Rensburg, a talented transfer from Oregon.
The 2009 UNF Fall Invitational will be played Friday-Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla. Matches will take place at the UNF Tennis Center, located on the campus of University of North Florida in the athletics complex. If needed, matches will also be played at the FCCJ Tennis Courts, located at 11901 Beach Blvd., just more than two miles from campus. |
