Women's Tennis Has Successful Weekend In Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ---- The Samford women's tennis team wrapped up play Sunday in the Roberta Alison Fall Classic hosted by the University of Alabama. Bulldog freshmen Lindsay Mallory, Lindsey Reidenbach and Taylor Morgan all won their brackets while Rebecca Kirven was the consolation champion in her bracket. Senior Anna Jackson and Katie Weaver both placed third in their respective brackets. In the teal bracket, Mallory faced off with UNC-Charlotte's Candace Cunningham Sunday morning. She took the match in two sets (6-2, 6-0) to win the championship round. Reidenbach led Gabi Vergara (UNCC), 6-3, in the finals of the pink bracket and was named champion when the match was called in the second set (1-2). In the same bracket, Kirven defeated Rachel Dunlavy of Auburn-Montgomery, 6-2, 6-3, to win the consolation championship. Morgan defeated Marine Arres of Troy, 6-3, 6-1, in the final round of the red bracket. After falling to Alabama's Merritt Emery in the semifinals of the silver bracket, Jackson was sent to the consolation finals which would determine third and fourth places. Jackson defeated Daniela Juskova of Mississippi State (6-4, 6-5) to come out with third. In the blue bracket, Weaver fell to AUM's Khady Berthe in the semifinals, which sent her to the consolation final. Weaver defeated Troy's Mirte de Bakker, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, to take third place in the blue bracket. The Samford women will have a couple weeks off before resuming fall play. The Bulldogs will return to the courts Friday, Oct. 12 as they play in the University of North Florida Invitational, which is a three-day event.
