Women's Tennis Falls To Murray State In OVC Finals

April 22, 2007

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ---- The Samford women's tennis team's hopes for a third tournament championship in four years were cut short Sunday by the Racers of Murray State in the final match of the O'Reilly Ohio Valley Conference Women's Tennis Championship in Nashville, Tenn. The Bulldogs fell to the Racers, 4-1.

The Racers took two of the three doubles matches while the Bulldogs only came out victorious in one of the four singles matches played. Murray State's Lask twins defeated Emily White and Sarah McKey at the No.1 doubles court, 8-3, while Angela McGahee and Lynsey Bochenek beat Christie Baker and Katie McMiller, 8-3, at the No. 3 court.

In singles, Anna Lask of Murray State took down Anna Jackson at the first court, 6-3, 6-3, while Katie McMiller took Rachel Lask to three sets at the second court, before eventually falling, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. At the No. 4 court, Whitnie Warren fell to McGahee, 6-2, 6-4. Sarah McKey claimed the only win for the Bulldogs at the No. 5 court as she defeated Lynsey Bochenek, 6-1, 6-2.

Despite the Samford women coming up short in the tournament, the Bulldogs claimed the regular-season title after going undefeated in conference play for the 2007 season. Head coach Terri Sisk was named OVC Coach of the Year while Emily White was selected to the all-OVC first team and Whitnie Warren to the second team.
