Women's Tennis Advances To Finals To Face Murray State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ---- The Samford women's tennis team is one win away from claiming their third Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship in four years. The Bulldogs defeated Tennessee-Martin Saturday morning to advance to the finals of the O'Reilly OVC Tennis Tournament.

The Samford women took the match by a score of 3-1. The Bulldogs took two out of three doubles wins as Warren/Jackson defeated Leavy/de Brito (8-5) at the No. 2 court while Baker/McMiller beat Wahl/Gunn (8-4) at the No. 3 court.

At the No. 3 court, Emily White defeated Ernesetine Koornhof, 6-1, 6-2, to claim the first singles win for the Bulldogs. Sarah McKey helped out with a win at the No. 5 court over Belisa de Brito (6-3, 7-5), while Bethany Benson sealed the deal at the No. 6 court defeating Mary Beth Gunn, 6-2, 6-1.

The only win for the Skyhawks came at the No. 1 court, where Elizma Schoonees defeated Anna Jackson, 6-2, 6-3.

The Bulldog women will take on Murray State Sunday morning in the final round of the O'Reilly OVC Tennis Tournament. Match play begins at 10 a.m.
