Women's Tennis Wins Final Home Match

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford women's tennis team closed out its final homestand Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 win over Morehead State. The Bulldogs remain undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play as they earned their ninth consecutive league win. Samford also honored seniors Anna Jackson and Katie Weaver before the match began Saturday. The Bulldogs began things by sweeping the doubles point from the Eagles. Jackson and Weaver won, 8-3, at the No. 1 spot while Lindsey Mallory and Taylor Morgan defeated Lakow/Antero, 8-2, at the No. 2 court and Rebecca Kirven and Andrie Meiring beat Rydberg/Butts, 8-1, at the No. 3 position. Samford went on to win five out of six singles matches, with Mallory blanking her opponent at the No. 6 spot and Morgan defeating Antero, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot. Morehead State's Alexandria Rydberg won the only match for the Eagles, defeated Jackson at the No. 3 position. The Bulldogs will try to keep their spot at the top of the OVC rankings Sunday as they take on Tennessee Tech in their last regular season match of the year.
