Women's Tennis Downs Eastern Illinois, 6-1

April 5, 2008

CHARLESTON, Ill. ---- The Samford women's tennis picked up its fifth consecutive Ohio Valley Conference win Saturday afternoon as they downed the Eastern Illinois Panthers, 6-1. The win keeps Samford's league record spotless and moves the Bulldogs to 13-5 overall while the Panthers fall to 11-5 (3-3 OVC).

The Panthers won the first doubles match at the No. 1 court, but Samford's No. 2 and No. 3 duos picked up wins to clinch the doubles point. Taylor Morgan and Lindsey Mallory defeated Nalatie Martin and Stephanie Harmazy, 8-4, at the No. 2 court while Andrie Meiring and Rebecca Kirven beat Carrie Larson and Lydia Pond at the No. 3 court by a score of 8-2.

Meiring had her conference win streak broken at the No.2 singles court as Martin handed Meiring her first OVC loss, 6-1, 7-6. However, the Bulldogs wrapped up the match, winning every other singles match and most by a large margin. No. 6 player Mallory blanked Pond, 6-0, 6-0 while Weaver defeated Harmazy at the No. 4 court, 6-2, 6-0.

The Bulldogs wrap up weekend play Sunday afternoon as they play their second to last match in this five-match road swing. Samford will face off with Southeast Missouri at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
