Women's Tennis Sweeps Murray State, Continues Conference Streak

April 4, 2008

MURRAY, Ky. ---- The Samford women's tennis team swept (7-0) Murray State Friday afternoon in the first match of a three-day road weekend for the Bulldogs. The win extends Samford's conference win streak to four wins and keeps the Bulldogs' OVC record spotless while improved their overall record to 12-5.

The Racers (11-5, 5-2 OVC) took the first doubles match as Angela McGahee and Anne Pennington, the OVC's top-ranked No. 1 duo, defeated Samford's Anna Jackson and Katie Weaver, 8-4. However, the Bulldogs locked up the doubles point as No. 2 duo Taylor Morgan and Lindsey Mallory and No. 3 duo Rebecca Kirven and Andrie Meiring both picked up wins.

In singles, the Samford women took every match. Meiring kept her conference record spotless with a win at the No. 2 court. She defeated Anne Pennington in three sets that came down to a tie-break. Weaver and Mallory also moved to 4-0 against conference opponents, picking up wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 courts, respectively. Kirven went three sets with Lyndsay Ottoson at the No. 5 spot while Jackson defeated Lynsey Bochenek at the No. 3 position.

Samford continues its weekend road trek with a noon match at Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
