Samford Women Fall To In-Town Foe UAB

March 28, 2007

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford women's tennis team fell to the UAB Blazers, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon in a tough match at the Pat M. Courington Center on the Samford University campus. The Bulldogs fall to 9-3 on the season, while the Blazers move to 11-1.

The Blazers came out roaring, as they swept all three of the doubles matches. The Bulldogs did not give up without a fight, keeping the matches close, not letting UAB take more than three games in the set. The Blazers have now won eleven matches on the year, and the win today gives UAB Head Coach Mert Ertunga his 200th career win.

Anna Jackson started the singles matches off to a good start, winning in three sets at the No. 1 position. Emily White won the second match for the Bulldogs, keeping her undefeated streak alive at the No. 3 position. White has now won 10 matches at the No. 3 spot and only losing one of the last eleven, that one being at the No. 2 spot.

Whitnie Warren claimed the last Samford win at the No. 4 court, defeating UAB's Elsholz, 6-2, 6-3. On the No. 5 court, Sarah McKey had her hands for with the Blazers' Tanzeem. McKey went three sets with her opponent before losing the match.

The Samford women will be back in action next Wednesday as they travel to in-state rival and OVC opponent Jacksonville State. The Bulldog women will join the Bulldog men in an afternoon match in Jacksonville, Ala., as they participate in their eighth conference match of the season.
