Samford Women's Tennis Keeps Conference Streak Alive

March 25, 2007

MOREHEAD, Ky. ---- The Samford women's tennis team capture double wins over Ohio Valley Conference opponents this weekend to keep their OVC win streak alive. With victories over Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State, the Samford women are still undefeated against conference foes.

On Saturday, Samford (9-2, 6-0 OVC) met up with the women of Eastern Kentucky for an afternoon match on the campus of EKU. The Bulldogs came out victorious over the Colonels, 6-1. The Samford women took two of the three doubles matches, while only losing one singles match.

Emily White and Sarah McKey began the match with win in the No. 1 doubles court, and Christie Baker and Katie McMiller added another win at the No. 3 doubles court.

Anna Jackson started things out for the Samford singles, going three sets with EKU's Svetlana Pimenova, before finally taking the match. Emily White continues her undefeated streak as she defeated Alexandra Sitnikova, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 3 court. Sarah McKey won over Casie Phillips in two sets of 6-1.

On Sunday, the Bulldogs took on the women of Morehead State in a mid-morning match. The Samford women came away with their sixth conference win as they swept the match, 7-0, from the Eagles. Samford swept the doubles matches, winning by as much as seven points. In singles, the Bulldogs won all six by only allowing their opponents to score one point, if any.

Samford will take on UAB this Tuesday at 2 p.m. before taking the weekend off. The Bulldogs will then be back in action April 3, as they travel to Jacksonville, Ala., to take on in-state rival Jacksonville State.
