Women's Tennis Back On Track With Win Over Mercer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford women's tennis team got back to its winning ways Saturday morning with a 6-1 win over the Mercer Bears at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 10-2 on the season while Mercer falls to 7-8. The Bulldogs took two of three in the doubles competition as freshman duos Lindsey Mallory and Taylor Morgan and Rebecca Kirven and Andrie Meiring won at the No. 2 and No. 3 courts. Taylor Morgan and Anna Jackson downed their opponents, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 1 and No. 3 courts, respectively. At the No. 6 court, Lindsey Mallory blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0 while No. 5 player Katie Weaver defeated her opponent, 6-1, 6-2. Reigning OVC Athlete of the Week, Andrie Meiring remains undefeated and extended her win streak to 13 with a win at the No. 2 court. The only loss for the Bulldogs came at the No. 4 position as Rebecca Kirven went to the wire with her opponent, eventually falling, 7-6, 2-6, 1-0. The Bulldogs will next go on a two-week road swing, beginning next weekend, March 27-29, with the Auburn-Montgomery Blue-Gray Jamboree. Samford 6, Mercer 1 Doubles Singles
