Women's Tennis Notches Another Win Against Georgia Opponent

ATLANTA, Ga. ---- The Samford women tennis team capped off a weekend of play with their second win of the season over Georgia Southern. The Bulldogs defeated the future Southern Conference for by a score of 4-3. The win boosts the Samford women to 2-0 on the season.

In singles, senior Anna Jackson dropped a match at the No. 1 court (6-3, 7-6) to Kristi Kegerreis while freshman Rebecca Kirven fell to Melanie Rolle at the No. 2 court, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Taylor Morgan sparked a streak as the Bulldogs won all four of the final singles matches. No. 3 player Morgan defeated Ali Beavers, 6-1, 6-0, while freshman Lindsey Mallory defeated Molly Maddox, 7-5, 6-3, at the No. 4 court. No. 5 player, freshman Andrie Meiring, took the match from Shea Huxtable, 6-3, 6-1, and senior Katie Weaver, playing in the No. 6 court, defeated Jessica Fuller, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Georgia Southern dominated the doubles competition, winning all three matches. No. 1 pair Weaver/Jackson fell to Kegerreis/Caforio, 8-2, No. 2 pair Morgan/Mallory fell to Rolle/Beavers, 8-7, and No. 3 pair Meiring/Kirven fell to Maddox Matlosz, 8-4.

The Samford women will be back in action next Saturday at they travel to Memphis to take on the University of Memphis and Southern Illinois. Match play with the Salukis kicks off at 9 a.m., followed by play with the Memphis Tigers at 3 p.m.
