Bednark Named A-Sun Player of the Week
April 28, 2003 MACON, Ga. - Samford catcher Angela Bednark was named the Atlantic Sun Softball Player-of-the-Week on Monday afternoon after leading Samford to a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference victories. Bednark batted .500 (6-12) on the week to lead the Bulldog offense. Bednark, a junior from Prospect, Ky., earned her first A-Sun Player-of-the-Week honor as she hit safely in all four Bulldog games last week. Samford posted two double-header splits as the Bulldogs faced conference rivals Mercer and Georgia State. Bednark went 3-6 in each of the double headers and drove in a run in each of the games against Mercer. She singled in the tying run in the seventh inning in the first game against and delivered and RBI-double in the second game. Defensively, Bednark recorded 23 put outs on the week and recorded one assist. Bednark is tied for third on her team with a .326 batting average and she has driven in 24 runs while hitting six home runs on the season. Erin Landsburg earned A-Sun pitcher of the week honors on March 24, giving the Bulldogs two conference honors in their final season as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Samford (26-17, 12-10) returns to play on April 29th when the Bulldogs host UAB on Senior Night at 6:00 p.m. Samford will finish the regular season on Friday, May 2, at home against the University of Mobile.
