Samford sophomore Trisha Holman played her freshman season as a member of the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs. On Saturday, she will make her return to Boiling Springs, N.C., as she tries to help Samford snap a four-game conference losing streak and move back into the Atlantic Sun Tournament race.

Holman batted .223 in 35 games for GWU last season. She is hitting .353 in 29 games so far this season for Samford. The Bulldogs enter the weekend 18-11 overall and are 4-4 in conference play as they wrap up an eight-game road trip on Saturday.

Over the last eight games Deanna Resmondo is 9-23 (.392) and Kelly Smith is 10-26 (.385) with five doubles. Smith and Sarah Godfrey each have three doubles in the last four games. Smith is now fifth on the single-season doubles list as she has pounded out 13 doubles this season. Michelle Wright had 18 doubles in the 2001 season. Smith is second in the A-Sun in doubles this season one behind Mercer's Nikki Bowery. Godfrey is fourth in the conference with 10 doubles. It has been the defense that has hurt the Bulldogs who have committed 10 errors in the last four games, giving up eight unearned runs.

Gardner-Webb has struggled in its first season as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Runnin' Bulldogs are 2-10 in the league and 11-25 overall. Rachael Riopel leads the team in batting with a .274 average and 16 RBI. She has a double, two triples, and a home run for the season. As a team, GWU has hit just two home runs this season; Jess Wilke has the other one. The Bulldogs have hit nine triples which is fourth in the A-Sun. In the circle, Stacie Reichert has a 4-12 record, a 1.84 ERA, in 21 appearances. She has thrown 95.1 innings and has fanned 75. Stephanie Taylor is 3-8 with a 3.70 ERA. She has made 18 appearances and thrown 64.1 innings fanning 45.

Saturday's double header marks the first time Samford and Gardner-Webb have ever faced each other in softball. Both games can be heard on the internet at Samfordsports.com beginning at 1 p.m. eastern and Noon central time.
