BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford and Campbell split a pair of 4-3 games on Friday night in an Atlantic Sun double header at Bulldog Field as Kelly Smith provided the game-winning hit for Samford in the first game and Amy Anderson hit a home run to lift Campbell in the nightcap.

Samford (24-15, 10-8 A-Sun) over came a 3-2 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning of game one. Erin Hall led the inning off by reaching on an error by the Camels shortstop. Sarah Godfrey singled to center field and moved to second on an error by the centerfielder to put the tying and go-ahead runners at second and third. Michelle Wright singled through the right side to score Hall to tie the game. Smith followed with a single to right field to put the Bulldogs ahead.

Erin Landsburg pitched seven innings giving up six hits, three unearned runs, walked one, and struck out three to improve to 12-7 on the year. Holly Harris took the loss for Campbell (22-26, 6-12 A-Sun) throwing six innings giving up four runs, one earned, and fanning three.

Samford got on the board with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Deanna Resmondo singled and Angela Bednark bunted a ball past the drawn in infield and move to second base as Resmondo moved to third. With one out, Resmondo scored on a wild pitch and Bridgett Smith singled home Bednark.

Campbell took advantage of a lack-luster top of the sixth by the Bulldog infield. The Camels took advantage of three Samford errors. Brooke Bennett had an RBI-single in the inning.

Campbell built a 3-0 lead in the night-cap. Harris singled home Shannon O'Brian with the game's first run in the first inning. In the fourth, Erica Willis led off with a double. She scored on a RBI-single by Bennett who came around to score on a passed ball.

 

 

Samford got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Angela Bednark singled home Kelly Smith who had hit her 17th double of the season and extended her hitting streak to 13 games. The Bulldogs had runners at second and third with one out but could not pull any closer.

Anderson led off the fifth with a solo home run on a 3-2 pitch to give Campbell a 4-1 lead.

Samford got a RBI-single by Resmondo in the sixth inning but she was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. In the seventh the Bulldogs rallied with two outs. Hall was hit by a pitch and scored on an RBI-double by Sarah Godfrey but Godfrey was thrown out at third base to end the game.

Lexi Myers picked up the win going seven innings giving up eight hits, three runs and striking out six batters to move to 11-10. Emilee Lewis dropped to 8-5 throwing three innings giving up three runs, two earned. She walked one and fanned two batters. Landsburg came on in relief to throw four innings allowing one run on two hits and striking out four.

Samford has now split its last four Atlantic Sun series. Kelly Smith's 13-game hitting streak is the second longest of the season for the Bulldogs and her 17 doubles on the year is one shy of the school record of 18 set during the 2001 season.

The Bulldogs will host Georgia State on Tuesday, April 22, in its final A-Sun home games of the year. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
