Softball and Tennis Cancel Wednesday Action
Feb. 27, 2002
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball game at Alabama A&M and the home tennis match against Chattanooga scheduled for Wednesday have been canceled due to weather conditions. Forecasted temperatures in Birmingham today called for highs in the mid 30s with 10-15 mile per hour winds. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association rules state the temperature must be above 40 degrees or the match must be moved indoors. Samford and Chattanooga have rescheduled the match for April 1, at 2 p.m. at the Samford Courts. The Softball game at Alabama A&M was allowed to start but was called by the home plate umpire after the first pitch. Samford and Alabama A&M have not announced a make up date. The Softball team is supposed to return to action this weekend at the Dayton Invitational in Dayton, Ohio, however, weather in Dayton is also an issue.
The men's and women's tennis teams will return to action on Saturday as they play Campbell in Macon, Ga. Those matches are set to begin at 10 a.m.
