Box Score

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Samford softball team was trying to win back-to-back games for the first time this season but the Bulldogs could not get a timely hit in a 1-0 loss to Jacksonville State Friday night at the GSU/Reebox Invitational at Georgia Southern University.

Samford (3-11) let a golden opportunity to score slip away in the first inning. Michelle Ashley singled and was sacrificed to second. Michell Wright followed with a single to right field and moved to second on the throw to the plate pulling Bulldogs at second and third with one out. Jacksonville State pitcher Meadow McWhoter got Janet Middleton to fly out to short center field and Abi Casillo to strike out to end the inning.

Jacksonville State (4-2) got on the board in the second inning thanks to a pair of Bulldog errors. The Gamecocks plated the games only run with out the benefit of a hit. McWhoter pitched 6.2 innings giving up five hits and no runs to pick up the victory. Tera Ross pitched to one batter in the seventh inning for the save.

Erin Landsburg was the tough-luck loser for the Bulldogs. She pitched seven innings giving up hits and struck out one. The unearned run was the only run she gave up.

The Bulldogs will play two games on Saturday. The first, against Middle Tennessee State at 11 a.m. and the second against Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m.
