Maryland Drops Samford to 0-3 at Bama Bash
Feb. 9, 2002 TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Angela Bednark has three hits in seven at bats so far this season. Two of those hits have left the yard. Unfortunately for Samford, Bednarks blasts have been the offense for the Bulldogs as they fell to Maryland 11-1 Saturday morning. Bednark has scored three of the Bulldogs' four runs on the season and has two of their three RBI. The home run is the seventh of her career moving her into a tie for fourth place on the all-time list. Dana Saffles had one of the Samford's six hits against Maryland. She is now 2-4 on the young season. Maryland (2-1) scored six runs in the first inning off Samford starter Amber Fuller. All six runs were scored after two were out. Kiesha Pickeral hit a two-run home run that got the Terrapins going. Beth Radford and Malissa Moczulski each had a pair of doubles. Moczulski and Pickeral each had three RBI on the day. Jessica Aditays picked up the win for Maryland in her first start of the season. She went five innings giving up one run on six hits and struck out two Bulldogs. The Terps scored nine of their 11 runs after two were out.
Fuller drops to 0-2 on the year. Erin Landsburg came on in relief and pitched four innings and gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits. Mindy Shunnarah, Michelle Wright, Sarah Godfrey, Deanna Resmondo all singled for their first hits of the season. Samford will play again this afternoon at 4 p.m. in the seeding round to see who will play in the consolation and championship games tomorrow.
