Soccer Remains At No. 14 In Regional Rankings

Oct. 29, 2007

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University soccer team remained at No. 14 in the Southeast Regional rankings Monday as the Bulldogs were recognized for a fourth-consecutive week by Soccer Buzz Magazine.

Samford (13-4, 8-1 Ohio Valley Conference) stayed at No. 14 in the regional rankings despite dropping a hard-fought double-overtime contest on the road against Southeast Missouri on Sunday. The 1-0 loss was Samford's first setback since Sept. 21.

The Bulldogs have been victorious in nine of their previous 10 matches and recently earned a first-round bye in the upcoming OVC Tournament. The 2007 OVC Tournament will be held at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

In this week's Southeast Regional rankings, all 15 teams remained in the poll.

North Carolina maintained the top spot in the standings, while Wake Forest overtook Florida State for the No. 2 spot. Georgia remained in the No. 4 position, while Florida made the biggest improvement of the week by moving up four spots from No. 9 to No. 5.

Clemson, South Carolina, Duke, Miami and UCF rounded out the top 10. UNC Greensboro improved from No. 13 to No. 11, while Charlotte, Auburn, Samford and East Carolina rounded out the top 15.

Three of Samford's four losses this season have come against regionally-ranked opponents. Earlier this year, the Bulldogs dropped hard-fought matches versus Auburn (#13), Miami (#9) and Indiana. Indiana is the fifth-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Saturday at 7 p.m., as the Bulldogs host the Belmont Bruins in the final regular-season contest of the year.
