Samford's Leppert Named SoCon Player Of The Week
Oct. 20, 2009
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford junior Leah Leppert was named the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week Tuesday for all games played Oct. 13-19. Leppert scored a pair of key goals in critical conference road wins over UNC Greensboro 2-1 and Elon 1-0 last week. Leppert, a native of Germantown, Tenn., scored the equalizing goal against first-place UNC Greensboro on Friday. She then tallied the game-winning goal on the road versus third-place Elon on Sunday. The momentous goals were her first and second of the 2009 campaign. She only attempted three shots over the weekend, but found the back of the net twice. Leppert ranks third on the team with seven points this season. The Bulldogs' speedy forward leads the team with 27 shots. Samford (10-1-3, 5-1-2 SoCon) is currently in third place in the conference standings with 17 points and three matches remaining. The Bulldogs host league opponents Georgia Southern and Davidson this weekend. Other top performers last week were Appalachian State's Caroline Clark, College of Charleston's Julie Romanik, The Citadel's Whitney Nave, Davidson's Kyri Bye-Nagel, Elon's Liz Palmer, Georgia Southern's Michelle Carlson and Wofford's Rachel Blackburn. The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 7 p.m., as the Bulldogs play host to the Georgia Southern Eagles. Prior to the match, Samford will hold a special Senior Night presentation for Caroline Baxter, Amber Cress, Natalie Fleming and Cindy Spiker. 2009 SoCon Players of the Week
