Soccer Travels To Georgia Southern For SoCon Duel

Oct. 4, 2008

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Samford University soccer team will conclude its first Southern Conference road trip of the 2008 season Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT), as the Bulldogs face off against the Georgia Southern Eagles at the 500-seat Eagle Field in Statesboro, Ga.

Samford (2-8-1, 1-1-1 SoCon) heads into Sunday's matchup with aspirations of rebounding from its 3-0 loss at Davidson on Friday. With the defeat, the Bulldogs dropped to 0-7 in road matches this season.

Prior to Friday's competition, Samford opened SoCon play last weekend with a decisive 3-0 victory against Elon and a 0-0 draw versus preseason-favorite UNC Greensboro.

Georgia Southern (4-4-2, 2-1 SoCon) enters Sunday's match riding the positive momentum of a 3-2 victory over Chattanooga on Friday. In the hard-fought overtime win, the Eagles' Danae Kaimuloa tallied the golden goal during the final minute of the period.

The score was Kaimuloa's fifth of the 2008 season. Earlier in Friday's victory over Chattanooga, she notched her fourth goal of the year. Georgia Southern's top goal-scorer this year is Ashley Toussaint, who currently leads the conference with eight goals.

Samford's leading goal-score this season is freshman Sarah Wilkinson. The Bulldogs' aggressive forward from Euless, Texas, has scored two goals this year.

Sunday's matchup featuring Samford and Georgia Southern will be the fifth all-time meeting between the teams.

The Bulldogs own a 3-0-1 record in the series and have defeated the Eagles three-consecutive times. The lone draw in the rivalry occurred during the 1997 campaign, a 0-0 tie, in Samford's inaugural season with a soccer program.

Following the Bulldogs' SoCon matchup against Georgia Southern on Sunday, Samford will next be in action Friday, Oct. 10, at home versus Furman at 7 p.m. (CT), at Bulldog Field.
