Ollom named A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week
Sept. 17, 2001 MACON, Ga. - Samford senior goalkeeper Carrie Ollom was named Atlantic Sun defensive player of the week announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Ollom recorded nine saves and didn't allow a goal in the Bulldogs' 1-0 win over intra-state and conference rival Jacksonville State last week as she earned her second shutout of the season. Ollom recorded three saves in the last fifteen minutes of the second period against the Gamecocks to preserve the Bulldogs' win. Her best save came in the 77th minute as she made a left-handed save on a breakaway by JSU's Ashley Martin. In the 80th minute, Mindy Jones rocketed a shot that Ollom had to dive to her right to keep her clean sheet. Through four games, the senior, who holds every single Samford goalkeeping record, has posted a goals allowed average of 1.03. She already has 25 saves and two shutouts in 351 minutes of work. Ollom has given up only four goals, which came in the Bulldogs' two losses to Bowling Green and Wright State.
Ollom is five saves away from 300 career saves. She has 295 saves going into Tuesday night's home match with Mississippi State.
