Bulldogs' Defense Listed Among Nation's Elite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University soccer team is one of only five teams in the nation that has not allowed a goal this season. The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 8-0 in five matches and join an elite group that also includes Boston College, Chattanooga, Marshall and South Carolina. Samford (4-0-1) is in the midst of a four-match winning streak and has earned consecutive victories against Alabama 3-0, Francis Marion 3-0, Texas State 1-0 and Belmont 1-0. The Bulldogs' lone draw this season was a scoreless tie versus the 25th-ranked Auburn Tigers on Aug. 23. In its five matches of the 2009 campaign, Samford has not allowed a goal in 470 minutes of game action. The Bulldogs' goalkeeper Alyssa Whitehead has already compiled four shutouts this season in 460 minutes of play. Samford is also one of only 20 teams that has not been defeated this year. The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 6 p.m. (CDT), as the Bulldogs travel to Kennesaw, Ga., for a challenging nonconference matchup against the Kennesaw State Owls.
