Soccer Grabs Fourth Victory and Celebrity Attention
Aug. 22, 2001 Jundiai, Brazil - Lisa Stucki and Susan Polhemus each scored goals as the Samford Bulldogs defeated Motorola 2-0 in front of a festive crowd in Jundiai, Brazil on Wednesday. The Bulldogs arrived in Jundiai as guests of the Jundiai Futbol Club, the second division league champions. Freshman Lindsey Bosshardt and assistant coach Chris Kouns were interviewed by Brazilian television and the Club held a special luncheon for the Bulldogs. The game itself was more like a party as the Brazilian citizens played music and danced for the majority of the game. Stucki scored her first goal of the trip to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Polhemus added a late goal to secure the victory. It was the Bulldogs second straight shutout of the Motorola Club. Samford is now above .500 on the trip with a 4-3 record.
The Bulldogs will take Thursday off from playing and enjoy the country as tourists. Samford will return to action for its final two games on Friday before returning to the States on Saturday.
