Americana, Brazil - Freshman Lindsay Shanks scored the Bulldogs first goal in Brazil as Samford picked up its first two wins on Sunday in the city of Americana.

One half of the Bulldog team defeated the Odessa Futbol Club 5-0 while the other half defeated the Americana Club 1-0. The Bulldogs are now 2-2 after dropping both games on Saturday.

Samford is splitting up its 24-player roster into two teams during the trip so that coaches can evaluate as many players as possible. The Preseason trip will see each team play six matches before returning home to start the regular season at Texas A&M on Aug. 31.

The Bulldogs seem to be getting their legs back under them after traveling Thursday and Friday. The defense struggled in the losses on Saturday, but on Sunday the defense was back to its stingy self, posting back-to-back shutouts.

Samford has 12 freshmen on its squad and Friday was the first day the freshmen were allowed to practice with the returners. It took time for the players to adjust to each other on Saturday but Sunday's effort was very encouraging for the Bulldog coaching staff.

The Bulldogs will take Monday off and visit a children's hospital in Campinas. Samford will travel to the city of Beard on Tuesday for two more matches.
