Second half goals lift UCF over Samford, 2-0
Oct. 13, 2001 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UCF scored two goals in the second half to remain atop the Atlantic Sun with a 2-0 win over Samford Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs fell to 3-3-1 in conference play. Senior striker Michelle Anderson found the far left post from 25 yards out for the game's first goal in the 54th minute giving UCF a 1-0 lead. Samford threatened to tie the game in the 59th minute. The Bulldogs had three consecutive corner kicks. Hayley Kolb's first kick was blocked away by UCF goalkeeper Jessica Kuhlman. Lisa Robishaw 's shot off the second corner was kicked away for another corner. UCF blocked away the third kick to end Samford's threat. The Golden Knights scored their second goal in the 76th minute. Allie Blagriff took a cross from Anderson and put it into the far left post from 20 yards out. Samford out shot UCF, 12-11. The Golden Knights held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-5. Samford goalkeeper Carrie Ollom finished with four saves while Kuhlman had three saves for the Golden Knights. "We were very excited that we were able to play well with the No. 1 team in the conference and even out shoot them," Samford head coach Barry Spitzer said. "That gives us confidence heading into fall break with three conference games remaining.
The Bulldogs travel to Georgia State at 4 p.m. (EST) Thursday. UCF hosts Troy State Thursday.
