Women's Golf Heads To Daytona Beach For 2009 Xavier Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University women's golf team, fresh off of its best finish of the 2009-10 campaign, will compete in its final tournament of the fall season this weekend at the Xavier Invitational Golf Tournament being held at the LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. The four-day event is slated to begin Friday morning and will conclude Monday afternoon. Samford heads into the 2009 Xavier Invitational Golf Tournament with a full head of steam after the Bulldogs earned a third-place finish at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate hosted by Elon University on Sept. 27. Samford was led in the three-day competition by senior Sara Hunt (71-77-73=221), who finished fourth in the 50-player tournament. The 2009 Sea Trail Intercollegiate was held Sept. 25-27, at the Sea Trail Golf Resort in Sunset Beach, N.C. Samford finished the three-day competition with a final team score of 908. The Bulldogs were led by Hunt's final tally of 221. Samford's fellow seniors Katelyn Stanier and Heather Arnold also earned top-15 finishes. Stanier, a native of Newnan, Ga., finished with a three-round score of 224 (70-75-79). She placed seventh in the tournament. Arnold ended in a tie for 15th place after she concluded the weekend with a total score of 230 (76-76-78). The 2009 Xavier Invitational Golf Tournament will begin Friday morning and will conclude Monday afternoon. The prestigious four-day competition will be held at the LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
