DELAWARE, Ohio - Junior golfer Kelly Villarreal recently won a tournament on the Collegiate Players Tour, shooting 72-75-71--218 at the par-71 Dornoch Golf Club. The Decatur, Ala., native edged Emily Shoplik (75-70-74--219) of Pittsburgh, Pa., by one stroke.

The tournament, played June 23-25, was the fourth stop on the tour, which features notable collegians looking to keep their games sharp during the summer. Villarreal has excelled on the tour recently, finishing second to Emily Spellman (83-83-79--245) of Kansas City, Mo., June 17-19 at Mississippi Dunes Golf Links in Cottage Grove, Minn. Villarreal shot 81-87-81--249.

The next stop on the Collegiate Players Tour is today through July 2 at Cross Gates Golf Club in Millersville, Pa.

As a sophomore last season, Villarreal tied for 24th at the Atlantic Sun Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. She shot 78-83-78--239 at the par-72, 5,942-yard Indigo Lakes Golf Course.

She earned Atlantic Sun All-Freshman honors in 2002.
