May 12, 2008
"A Day With Lee Trevino and Samford Golf" Registration Brochure
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Samford University golf teams will host a golf tournament June 1-2 to raise money for the Samford Athletic Foundation and golf programs. The event is titled "A Day With Lee Trevino and Samford Golf" as 1981 World Golf Hall Of Fame inductee Trevino will be the special guest at the affair that will be held at Shoal Creek Golf Course. The two-day event begins Sunday, June 1, with a dinner at 6:30 p.m., featuring Trevino as the guest speaker. Trevino will also host a clinic the following morning before the tournament begins. He will also play a few holes with each group participating in the event. The cost to participate in the two-day experience is $2,000, which includes a round of golf, caddie, range balls, breakfast, lunch, dinner, gifts and a clinic hosted by Trevino. Gifts for each participant include a personalized PING Samford golf bag. Registration is limited to 40 players in teams of four, but there are still spots available. Interested parties should contact Samford head golf coach Woodie Eubanks for more information at (205) 726-4293 or download an application from Samford's website, www.samfordsports.com. Nicknamed "The Merry Mex," Trevino is the winner of 29 PGA Tour events, including two U.S. Opens (1968, 1971), two British Opens (1971, 1972) and two PGA Championships (1974, 1984). He is won of the very best to have ever played the game of golf. Trevino's final regular Tour win and major came at Shoal Creek when he bested rivals Gary Player and Lanny Wadkins in the 1984 PGA Championship. He joined the Champions Tour in 1989 and soon dominated it. He also amassed 29 Champions tour wins, including four majors. He now plays a very limited Champions Tour schedule. Shoal Creek is the unrivaled number one golf course in the state of Alabama, and it is a privilege for Samford University men's and women's golf team to host "A Day With Lee Trevino and Samford Golf" at this prestigious venue. Shoal Creek has hosted the 1984 and 1990 PGA Championship, the 1986 U.S. Amateur Championship, and in July, will host the U.S, Junior Amateur Championship.
