Women's Golf Tries For First Conference Championship
April 13, 2008
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Samford women's golf team will try for their first Ohio Valley Conference Championship Monday as it begins competition in the 2008 OVC Women's Golf Championship Tournament. This 54-hole event will be held Monday through Wednesday, April 14-16, at The Shoals on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail and is hosted by Jacksonville State University. Sophomore Katelyn Stanier is this year's defending individual champion. Stanier became the first freshman to win the individual title since Eastern Kentucky's Beverly Brockman in 1994. Fellow sophomores Sara Hunt and Heather Arnold will also looked to help the Bulldogs to their first OVC title as they have been consistent contributors to Samford's success throughout this season. Hunt and junior Maria Troche both finished in the top 10 in Conference scoring average this season. The Samford women have not finished below seventh place in any tournament they have played in this spring. The Bulldogs won their first tournament in Samford history in their first showing of the spring season at the Ann Rhoads Southern Shootout, topping 14 other teams. The first round of 18 holes begins Monday morning at 8 a.m. Hole-by-hole live results from each day of the championship can be accessed through links at OVCSports.com.
