CALHOUN COUNTY, Ala. - Samford's Kelly Villarreal and Sara Gossum are among the Top 20 players and the Bulldogs are fifth out of the 13-team field at the JSU Chris Banister Classic, played at the Silver Lakes Golf Club.

Villarreal (79) placed in a tie for 10th, six strokes out of the lead held by Murray State's Stephanie Baskey (73). Gossum (81) is in a tie for 16th with four other golfers. Gossum and Villarreal both shot a 42 on the back nine after Villarreal fired 37 on the front and Gossum shot 39 in her first nine.

The Bulldogs trail future Ohio Valley Conference opponent Murray State (314), New Orleans (315), and current Atlantic sun foes Jacksonville State (319) and Troy State (320) in the Top 5.

Tara Clayton (85), Becky Hammel (89) and Tricia Harlow (92) rounded out the Bulldog roster on Monday. Samford begins Tuesday's round looking to finish in the top half of a tournament for the fourth time this season.
