WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - The Samford University women's golf team completed the Sixth-Annual Wachovia/Great Smokies Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina at Waynesville Country Club in Waynesville, N.C., on Monday, Oct. 18. Round II of competition was cancelled today, due to severe weather and flooding. In a 24-team field, Samford finished in 11th place with a Samford-record shot of 311.

"This is a great score for the women's team," said head coach Ian Thompson. "Since I have been the coach, no team has scored this well at an event. We are making history for the women's program and it is truly a great thing to accomplish. I am very proud of the team and we will go home and work on our mistakes, while preparing for next week's competition."

Kelly Stout finished as Samford's top performer with a career-best shot of 75.

Also finishing on top for the Bulldogs were Kelly Villareal and Tricia Harlow, who both recorded a shot of 78 each.

Also competing well for the Bulldogs, Brooke Barriento and Courtney Warr, who finished with a shot of 80 each.

Bulldogs will head to the Austin Peay Intercollegiate Tournament on Oct. 25-26 in Clarksville, Tenn.
