SUNSET BEACH, N.C. - The Samford women's golf team tallied its best finish of the 2009-10 season Sunday as the Bulldogs carded a final-round score of 310 to place third at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate hosted by Elon University. Samford was led by senior Sara Hunt (71-77-73=221), who finished fourth in the 50-player competition.

"I'm happy with how we played today, but I know that we are capable of playing much better," said Samford head coach Woodie Eubanks. "I know we have a great team this year and we have high expectations. I don't think we played our best this weekend, but it was definitely the best that we've played this season. We just need to continue to improve and hopefully get better and better as the year goes on."

Samford finished the three-day competition with a final team score of 908. Western Carolina won the championship crown of the 2009 Sea Trail Intercollegiate with a 54-hole mark of 897, while Longwood University placed second at 898.

The Bulldogs were led by Hunt's final tally of 221. Samford's fellow-seniors Katelyn Stanier and Heather Arnold also earned top-15 finishes.

Stanier, a native of Newnan, Ga., posted a 79 on Sunday and finished with a three-round score of 224 (70-75-79). She placed seventh in the tournament. Arnold ended in a tie for 15th place after she carded a 78 in the final round of play. The Bulldogs' native of Lenior City, Tenn., concluded the weekend with a total score of 230 (76-76-78).

Rounding out the scores for Samford were sophomore Sarah Butts (77-77-80=234) and true freshman Kayla Turner (83-76-83=242).

Western Carolina's Josefine Sundh earned the individual title of the Sea Trail Intercollegiate. She tallied a third-round score of 73 on Sunday and finished the competition with a final tally of 216.
