SUNSET BEACH, N.C. - The Samford women's golf team carded a second-round score of 304 on Saturday at the 2009 Sea Trail Intercollegiate hosted by Elon University. After 36 holes of play at the Sea Trail Golf Resort, the Bulldogs (294-304=598) sit in third place behind Longwood University (299-295=594) and Western Carolina (293-302=595).

Samford was led Saturday by senior Katelyn Stanier. The Bulldogs' native of Newnan, Ga., carded a second-round score of 75 to move into a two-way tie for third place in the individual standings. After two days of play at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate, Stanier owns a 36-hole score of 145.

Fellow-senior Sara Hunt carded a 77 on Saturday and has tallied a two-day total of 148. The Bulldogs' native of Columbia, Tenn., is in sole possession of sixth place. Hunt is only five strokes out of the first-place position.

Samford's Heather Arnold and Kayla Turner both turned in scores of 76 in the second round of play. Sophomore Sarah Butts finished with her second straight 77 on Saturday. Arnold's total for the tournament is 152, while Butts and Turner are listed at 154 and 159, respectively.

Longwood posted a second-round score of 295 to move into first place at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate. Ariel Witmer led the Lancers in the second round, posting a 71 to sit in fifth after two days (76-71=147). Kameron Carter currently sits in second place with a score of 144 (71-73).

Western Carolina's Josefine Sundh currently sits in first place after shooting a 72 on Saturday (71-72--143) to lead the Lady Catamounts to the second-place spot after two rounds. Teammate Desiree Karlsson sits in a tie for seventh (73-77=150) while Malin Jansson (76-75) and Blaire Minter (73-78) are tied for 10th with a two-round score of 151.

 

 

Samford's Stanier leads the Bulldogs and sits in a tie for third with a score of 145 (70-75) while teammate Hunt sits in sixth with a two-day score of 148 (71-77). Elon sits in fourth place with Tara McFadden (76-74) and Diana Davis (74-76) tied for seventh with a score of 150.

Appalachian State holds the fifth-place spot. Jordan Kreuter leads the Mountaineers with a score of 151 (74-77) which is good for a tie for 10th place.

The Samford University women's golf team will resume play in the 2009 Sea Trail Intercollegiate on Sunday in Sunset Beach, N.C.
