Samford Women Drop A Spot In Round Two Of OVC Championship

April 15, 2008

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. --- The Samford women's golf team dropped a spot to fourth place after the second round of play in the 2008 Ohio Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship. Jacksonville State still leads the field with Murray just behind while Eastern Kentucky edged Samford out of the top three by just one shot.

The Bulldogs shot 12 strokes better than they did in round one, shooting 316 in round two. However, every team improved in the second day of play so scores were much closer this time around.

"We are just one stroke back from where we were yesterday, but the bottom line is that we didn't play as well as we should have today," Samford head coach Woodie Eubanks said. "I think it is possible for us to at least finish second tomorrow, if we play like we know we can."

OVC All-Newcomer team selection sophomore Sara Hunt leads the Bulldogs while in a three-way tie for sixth place. Hunt improved nine strokes with a 74 in round two to bring her tournament total to 157. She is just three strokes out of the lead.

Courtney Warr and Kentucky Stanier join Hunt in the top 20. Warr is tied for 12th place, improving 10 strokes in round two with a 75 and shooting a total 160 at 16-over. Stanier is tied fro 19th place, shooting 84 on the day to bring her two-round total to 163.

All-OVC Second Team selection Heather Arnold is in 24th place currently, shooting 164 in the tournament so far. Maria Troche rounds out the Bulldog five in 34th place, shooting 180 through two rounds.

Samford tees off beginning at 8:40 a.m. for round three on Wednesday at the Fighting Joe Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Live scoring can be accessed at www.golfstat.com and a full recap and results will be available on www.samfordsports.com at the completion of the final round.
