Women's Golf Seventh at JSU Chris Banister Classic

GLENCOE - Freshman Kelly Villarreal shot a two-round total of 155 to finish in a tie for second place and Samford finished seventh at the JSU Chris Banister Classic. The finish is Villarreal's fifth career Top-20 finish in six tournaments. Middle Tennessee State's Tamara Munsch shot a low-round of 75 for a total of 154 to claim medalist honors. Murray State fired a two-day total of 639 to claim the team championship, while Samford (338) slipped two spots after beginning Tuesday's round in fifth place at the 5,935 yard, par 72, Silver Lakes Golf Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Villarreal tied with Murray State's Stephanie Baskey and New Orleans Crystal Elliers in second while Murray State's Cuyler Hedley finished at 156 to round out the top 5. Sara Gossum (169) finished at 30th, Becky Hammel (173) at 39th, Tara Clayton (176) in 52nd and Tricia Harlow (182) in 58th for the Bulldogs. New Orleans finished with a 643 to claim second place, just four shots back. Troy State fired a 646 for third, Jacksonville State finished in fourth with a 648 and Middle Tennessee State's 656 was good enough for fifth place in the 13 team field.
The remainder of the field finished as follows: Western Kentucky (661), Samford (672), Tennessee Tech (673, Cincinnati (682), Birmingham-Southern (682), Eastern Kentucky (686), South Alabama (691) and Belmont (718).
