ONEANTA, Ala. --- The Samford women's golf team tied for seventh place as the fifth annual Samford Intercollegiate concluded Tuesday at Limestone Springs Golf Course in Oneonta, Ala. The Bulldogs finished with a total score of 930 (317-305-308) to move up two spots to a tie with Bradley after round three.

"I think if we had had a better first round, we would most likely be in the top five," Samford assistant coach Ian Thompson said. "However, I was very pleased with the way we played in the last two rounds. Sara (Hunt) really helped out with the team low score of 72 and overall, I think it was a very successful host tournament for us."

Hunt finished in a tie for 17th place Tuesday, after shooting two rounds of 79 followed by a 72 in the final round. She came in just two strokes behind team leader Heather Arnold, who placed 12th with a tournament total of 228 (77-74-77). Katelyn Stanier kept her spot at 23rd place, shooting 231 (78-75-78) in the tournament. Maria Troche also stayed in a tie at 57th place (85-77-81) while Courtney Warr moved up just one spot to a tie for 71st place, shooting 252 (83-86-83).

The individuals for Samford were Kellie O'Connell, Stephanie Larson and Brooke Barriento. O'Connell shot 248 to land in 64th place while Larson moved up two spots to a tie at 80th place and Barriento dropped two spots to 83rd.

Walking away with the team title was the University of Tulsa, finishing 17 strokes in front of second place finisher Chattanooga with score of 884 (290-291-303). Chattanooga finished 12 strokes ahead on Jacksonville State, who placed third with Missouri State and Illinois tied at fourth to round out the top five teams. Murray State grabbed sixth place, followed by Bradley and Samford as seventh and Belmont and South Alabama at ninth and tenth places, respectively. UAB and Birmingham-Southern tied for 11th place while Western Kentucky, Xavier and Lipscomb brought up the rear.

The individual medalist was Emma deGroot (72-71-68 = 211) from Chattanooga finishing six strokes ahead of Michaela Cavener (74-70-73). Seul Ki Park (Illinois) and Amy Phalaljivin (Missouri State) tied for third and Lorie Warren, who won the tournament last year, took fifth place.

The Samford women have a week off before returning back to the links for the second half of spring play. The Bulldogs will next participate in the Larry Nelson Collegiate hosted by Kennesaw State at the Chateau Elan Course in Braselton, Ga., Monday and Tuesday, March 30 - April 1.
