Jennifer Chastain Gets Fourth Top 10 Finish
March 6, 2001
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Samford senior golfer Jennifer Chastain recorded her fourth Top 10 finish in five attempts in 2000-01, finishing eighth with a two-round total of 155 after poor weather conditions shortened the Bradford Creek Spring Invitational to two rounds on Tuesday. Chastain opened the tournament with a two-over-par 74 on Sunday, then followed by firing 81 on Monday in difficult conditions. The lowest second-round was a two-over-par 74, posted by leader Courtney Pomeranz of UNC-Wilmington. Chastain's two-round score of 155 (74-81) trailed Pomeranz (76-74/150) by only five strokes as play was cancelled on Tuesday. "Jennifer continues to play well in the last semester of her senior year, and it will be tough to see her go after a few more tournaments" said head coach Ian Thompson. "She played in extraordinarily difficult conditions at this tournament to put herself in a position to finish in the Top 10 of another tournament, the fourth in five starts this season."
Sara Gossum and Tara Clayton finished the tournament with a two-round total of 176, Becky Hammel posted a 179 and Rebecca Ozier scored 182 to round out the Samford roster.
