Christine Sparks is tied for eighth individually after one round at the Southern Shootout.

Samford shot a 358 on a blustery cold Greystone Golf Club course Monday. The Bulldogs are in ninth place after the first round of the Southern Shootout. The final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

"It was a very cold day, and that made the course quite difficult," said coach Ian Thompson. "The pace of play was slow and it was really tough out there today."

Tara Clayton leads the Bulldogs and is tied for 24th after shooting 40-47=87. Kelly Villarreal (44-44=88) and Kelly Stout (42-46=88) are tied for 26th. Tricia Harlow shot 46-49=95 (55), and Sara Gossum shot 47-49=96.

Christine Sparks, competing as an individual, shot 41-41=82. Sparks is tied for eighth individually.

Marilen Fernandez Ruiz's two-over par 74 sets the Jacksonville State standout three shots in front of the field. Jacksonville State's 322 is good for first place overall.

Tuesday's final round start time has been pushed back to 10:30 a.m.
