Women's Basketball Travels to Alabama State
Dec. 14, 2002 Samford heads to Alabama State in women's college basketball action Saturday evening at the Acadome in Montgomery. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. The Bulldogs take to the road for the second time in December. Lori Chase and Carina Souza each scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures for Southeast Missouri State as the Otahkians defeated Samford, 89-48, last Saturday. Che' Walker led the Bulldogs with 12 points while Chelsee Insell added 11 points. Southeast Missouri State outscored Samford, 50-25, in the second half. Samford committed a season-high 30 turnovers. The Bulldogs shot 47 percent in the first half but committed 18 turnovers against SEMO's stingy defense. The Otahkians had 11 steals in the first half. Lindsey Harris added eight points and while Andrea Ward and Noot Pittman each scored five points. Alabama State fell on the road to No. 2 LSU, 65-19, last Saturday. LSU held the Lady Hornets to 7-of-53 shooting and tied the lowest points allowed in NCAA women's basketball history. Tawana Harris and Vicki Pouncey each scored four points to lead Alabama State. Alabama State leads the series over Samford, 3-1. The Lady Hornets won last season's meeting in Birmingham, 78-62. Samford's one win in the series came during the 1999-2000 season when the Bulldogs defeated ASU, 59-45.
Samford hits the road again for its next game. The Bulldogs travel to UNC-Asheville Thursday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. (CST).
